Bulls must resign BG7

The Bulls must resign BG7(Ben Gordon). He is averaging 24.5 points a game in the playoffs. He is one of the best scorers in the league not named Kobe, Lebron, or Dewayne. He is a sharp shooter and when the jumper is hot man it's hot. He and Rose work well together. His defense might be lack luster but he makes up for it with that jump shot of his. How could you not want him back. You just can't lose him for nothing. Look at his numbers during his entire career 18.5 points per game, 41% from behind the Arc, 85% free throw shooter, and has something a lot of players don't have. That's ice water in the veins. Not afraid to take the big shot, make or miss he is taking it. The Bulls need a player like this. He was been consistent throughout his career with the Bulls. I say the Bulls need to get it down. Give the money that he wants and don't worry about 2010. No gurantee that any player would come anyway. If you were to get any player I would think it would be via a trade of some of the younger talent that the Bulls have. Ben Gordon is only driving up his price with every clutch shot that he makes. Big shot Ben needs to be around for a long time. Paxson needs not to worry about the luxary tax and do what's important. Take that step towards winning a championship. Ben played most of the 2nd half with a strained hamstring. He is the real deal and a player that would be surely missed when you need someone to take that big shot.

Blackhawks one game away

Tonight the Blackhawks looks to close out the series vs. the Flames. The Blackhawks lead the series 3 games to 2. It has been a hard hitting series which is expected in a playoff series. The young Blackhawks team know that it takes 4 not three wins. So look for them to come out with an effort somewhat similar to what they did in Game 5. It will be an exciting game for sure. My pick to click tonight will be Toews. Check back for after game thoughts.

Catch the Blackhawks vs. Flames tonight on Comcast Sports Net in HD puck drop is at 7:30. Don't miss game 1

Bulls Vs. Boston Best of 7

If you would have told me around the All-Star break that the Bulls would finish the regular season with a .500 record I would of called you a liar. Well you won't catch any lies here the bulls finished the season 41-41. They have won 16 of their last 17 home games. Now that it seems as if KG will be out for at least the 1st round the Bulls really have a chance. I am not sold on Boston. They tend to try and turn it on and off when they want to. If the Bulls could still one road game at least it will be an interesting series. The Bulls can't afford to fall back into their old ways like they did last night vs. Toronto. Ben Gordon has to really step his defense up but I highly doubt he will. My prediction is Boston in 6 hopefully I am wrong.

New poll

Vote on who you feel is the best young player in Chicago

Rex back to the Bears?

I know this might sound like a crazy statement, but not really if you think about it. Just hear me out first. Currently the backups of Cutler are Caleb Hanie and Brett Basanez. Neither with any starts in the NFL. Brett Basanez is the only one with any experience. Rex is familiar with the offense and has led the Bears to the playoffs something that Jay Cutler has never experienced. God forbid Cutler gets hurt are you really comfortable with Caleb Hanie and Brett Basanez as the safety nets? If Grossman doesn't see a snap all year what harm is done? None at all. How quick was everyone to throw Rex under the bus? Never seen home fans boo a player at family night. I am lobbying for the Bears to bring Rex back as an insurance policy for the Bears season. Comment let me know your take on this topic. Until next time Chicago Sports Bloggers

Bulls clinch playoffs

The Oklahoma Thunder have beaten the Bobcats therefore guaranteeing no worse than the 8th seed. The Bulls are only a game and a half behind 76ers for the 6th spot. The Bulls are on a good streak and only getting better. Don't look for them to get swept by whomever ever their unlucky opponent is. I really believe they could get to the 2nd round at least. Stay tuned to the Chicago Sports Bloggers

Fans have spoken.........

And the final results are the next team to bring home a championship are the Chicago Blackhawks with an overwhelming 56% of the vote followed by the Chicago Cubs with 29% of the vote.

(note: poll closed before Jay Cutler trade)

Gregg the right choice?

The cubs have started out 2-2 on the season. New Cubs closer Kevin Gregg has looked shakey at best. In three appearances his era is well over 8. He is one for two in save chances. He got lucky in the 1st game. Last season he had 9 blown saves with a 7-8 record, hardly top of the line numbers for a closer of a team that is expected to make a deep playoff run. I really like what the Cubs have going but the bullpen will be the downfall of this team. No way they should have gave up on all-star closer Kerry Wood when he was willing to give a very large discount to finish what he started. Only time will tell but the leash on Gregg has to be extremely short. Stay tuned to the Chicago Sports Bloggers

Change We Can Believe In?

The Chicago Bears organization never promised its beloved fans anything for the past few years except for when coach Lovie Smith repeatedly said "Rex Grossman is our quarterback." They were always known as the team without a quarterback but had an outstanding defense that bailed out the offense on many occasions. When the offense was analyzed there was always a question of whether or not the quarterback would lose the game rather than win it.

Football specialists and commentators are debating. Die-hards are rejoicing. Prodigal fans are skeptical but have hope nonetheless. One thing is for sure though: The Bears finally have a quarterback. Jay Cutler is a pretty good one too. He had a pro-bowl season last year and he has had an up and off season. Feeling betrayed by his coaches and the front office when they attempted to acquire Chiefs new QB Matt Cassell, Cutler has something to prove. He has a large chip on his shoulder as he starts fresh in the Windy City.

The Bears were 9-7 last year and fought to get to the playoffs until the last game which isn't bad at all. A successful season to say the least. They had a mediocre offense and defense that balanced each other out. Kyle Orton wasn't the greatest but he got the job done from time to time. Now they have a guy who has proved himself on and off the field. He is still battling diabetes but this hasn't stopped his growth.

The fact that there is so much coverage proves that Cutler is a good player who people want to see get better. Now he has his stage set for him playing for one the the greatest football franchises ever. Great for the Bears. Great for Jay Cutler.

Side note: The New York Giants released WR Plaxico Burress today....

Blackhawks look to clinch playoff spot Friday night

The Chicago Blackhawks have a unique opportunity to clinch their first postseason berth since the 2001-2002 season in front of their home crowd on Friday night as they battle the Nashville Predators. The Predators, however, have plans of their own as they try to lock down one of the final playoff spots in the Western Conference. Chicago slipped back into 5th place tonight after Calgary won and Vancouver earned a point. A win against Nashville tomorrow night will indeed seal a playoff berth, but the race for 4th place and home ice will likely come down to the very last game of the season.

The Predators enter friday night's action tied for 8th place in the West, so you can expect them to come out playing hard and desperate. Nashville has played well as of late, recording a 5-2-3 record in their last 10 to bring them back into postseason contention. Puck drop is set for 7:30 in front of a sold out United Center.

*Playoff Outlook*

With the Canucks surging lately and sneaking up on struggling Calgary in the division race, the Hawks now must scoreboard watch two clubs as they try to earn home ice. Below are the schedules for each the Canucks and Flames the rest of the way:

Canucks

Sat Apr 4, 2009 Canucks Oilers
Sun Apr 5, 2009 Avalanche Canucks
Tue Apr 7, 2009 Flames Canucks
Thu Apr 9, 2009 Kings Canucks
Sat Apr 11, 2009 Canucks Avalanche

Flames

Fri Apr 3, 2009 Flames Wild
Mon Apr 6, 2009 Kings Flames
Tue Apr 7, 2009 Flames Canucks
Fri Apr 10, 2009 Flames Oilers

It looks as if the Tuesday, April 7th game between the two clubs could have some serious implications on the final standings. Stay tuned.

Biggest sports day in Bears history?

The Bears today acquired 8 pro bowls combined of talent in the names of Jay Cutler and Orlando Pace. The Bears traded Kyle Orton, a 2009 first and third round pick, and a 2010 pick. The Bears also signed Pace to a three year deal. I never thought I would see the day the Bears would be the big spenders in the off season. I have to give my props to Jerry Angelo for going all out on this one. If this doesn't work out the fans can't put Jerry Angelo head on the chopping block. This was what everyone wanted including me. I hope this is the QB that we have been waiting on. Only time will tell.
